Portrait of Poulton-le-Fylde

Author
Christine Storey
Publisher
Landy

In this book, Poulton-le-Flyde portrayed by many photographers. Their 130-or-so snapshots, taken over about a 100 years, are explained to us by Christine Storey, who has lived in the town since her primary school days and has studied its history in detail. She was the founder of the local history and civil society in 1981, and has been an officer of it since then. It can properly be said that she is has interested in its past as she is its future. The reader could not have a better guide. Christine starts perambulation in market place (watch out for the Ribble ‘buses and the farmer carts’), shows us what was here before the Teanlowe Came, and tells us who sold what in Church Street, Chapel Street, Ball Street and Brack Street. She mentions a pub or two other businesses and some individuals. Off then to Carleton, Singleton and Staining to put the finishing touches to Poulton’s portrait.
